Since the RP-1 will be a much faster kart than its frame was originally designed for, the INSTAR team chose to improve upon its safety features by adding a roll-bar, safety-restraint system, and head-restraint system. The roll-bar helps to mount the motors and also serves as an anchor for the kart’s safety belts. The safety-restraint system is made up of a 6-point harness with a quick release latch for a quick egress in emergency situations. The head-restraint system functions as a simple headrest, protecting the driver from whiplash during a sudden deceleration.
